As soon as Murphy heard she had been selected, she knew the influence she wanted to take from Edmund de Waal was to work with porcelain. Her first wood firing was completed in May 2025 and she was overcome by the results. She was intrigued by how the clay body resisted her pulls, how it drew back and seemed to realign itself immediately after interfering with it. It was certainly different from the stoneware she is used to.

Axel Salto was also a big inspiration in her works due to the vast experimentation, freedom, clear love and passion for trying new things.

Barbara Hepworth’s love of the Yorkshire coastline also resonates with Zivarna. Imagining Hepworth’s pockets full of sea-smoothed stones and textured pebbles.
